AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) remains one of the most serious challenges in medicine and society. The HIV/AIDS epidemic has affected millions of people around the world and left a deep impact. World AIDS Day reminds us that the epidemic is not yet over and that efforts must continue to prevent the spread of infection and ensure access to treatment and support for those living with AIDS. The theme of World AIDS Day changes each year to focus on specific aspects of the epidemic. Past topics have included Rights, Non-Stigma, Health, Global Access and Justice, and Ending AIDS Together. These themes highlight the importance of equality, access to treatment and solidarity in the fight against AIDS. Activities on this day include free HIV testing, educational campaigns, fundraising events and a variety of other activities aimed at preventing the spread of infection and providing health care to those in need of treatment. World AIDS Day reminds us of the importance of solidarity and cooperation in the fight against this epidemic. It is also a day when we can support those living with HIV/AIDS and continue our efforts to achieve a world free of this dangerous disease.

In Oregon, Rosa Parks Day is celebrated on December 1, the anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest in 1955. Oregon officially created this day in 2009 to remember Rosa Parks' brave act of civil protest. Similar to Ohio, Oregon's Rosa Parks Day is an occasion for educational programs and activities aimed at educating the public about the civil rights movement and the significance of Rosa Parks' contributions to the fight for equality and justice.
